Living and Shooting in a Post Pandemic world | Toronto Maternity & Newborn Photographer

There has been so much happening in the world since spring break. The arrival of the corona virus(Covid 19) has definitely changed the world we used to know. We have celebrated a few “covid style” birthdays and anniversaries. Here in Ontario, our baseball season is still essentially cancelled – who knew I’d miss the heat and red dust of the diamond! Online learning for the kids, continuing to work outside of the home due to working in health care, zooming with friends who I miss dearly, it is safe to say it’s been a tough go. The civil unrest we have been seeing in the U.S. and protests of support across the world since the death of George Floyd (add link) as taken things to a new level. The pandemic has hit small businesses hard. Being a maternity and newborn photographer I too have felt the hit of closing my business through all of this. But as our city and the world begin to slowly reopen, I want to ensure my clients – past and future – that I am taking steps to ensure the safety of your family during your sessions when D. P. Photography reopens.

Some things will remain the same:

*Bookings will still be done online or over the phone
*Deposits and final payments can still be made via e-transfer
*All props, gowns and fabrics will be cleaned after every session as well as the studio
*Digitals will still be provided via private online gallery

but of course there are new things we will have to get used to:

*All clients participating in a session will now have to answer pre-screening questions prior to the session
*D.P. Photography’s client contract will have updated terms
*I will wear a face covering/mask for the duration of the session
*If possible we will shoot outdoors (especially for family sessions) to maintain social distancing as best as possible

*Most importantly, if you are sick or any member of your family is feeling sick PLEASE STAY HOME. The safety and health of both your family AND my family is of utmost importance to me.

I want to now share my heart with you (if you’ve stuck with me so far 🙂 ) on world events. The death of George Floyd.

I first saw the video on Instagram and my first reaction was, oh Lord not again. But then as the video continued, I couldn’t believe what was happening. We all know the end result as Mr. Floyd cried for his mom and begged for his breath. The pain of seeing yet another black life snuffed out breaks my heart (and in no way have I forgotten the lives of Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery and the lives of others not caught on video that have been snuffed out before them). Watching protests on the news continues to leave me sad that after all these years there are still people in the world that still hold these values of inequality as normal, but I do feel a bit of hope that there are yet more that are willing to stand up and fight against it. There are more that are willing to speak up for those whose breath was taken from them. There are more that will raise their children to be accepting and to see the differences in one another and stand together and not tolerate injustices, ignorance and inequality.

2020 has been some year hasn’t it? And we’re only half way through.

I have had several inquiries for newborn sessions and I am excited to meet their little ones when they arrive. If you are interested in booking a maternity or newborn session, or both, please let me know and I will add you to the wait list. If you’re still on the fence about booking, that’s ok too. Send me a message and we can discuss your concerns and answer any questions you may have.

My goal is still – and has always been – to make my clients feel comfortable and have fun during our time together.

I look forward to meeting the new moms and new little lives of 2020. Stay strong, stay healthy and love one another.
